WEEK2-Studio Exercise


  1. Identify how the understanding of "home" has changed over time-In around 150 years ago, "home" is a place who shares with somebody for staying. However, in nowadays, "home" has became ownership of someone, or it could be say it is a property belongs to someone.
  2. Write a description of the concept of home-A home is a dwelling-place used as a permanent or semi-permanent residence for an individual or family. It could be a house, apartment, or other building, or alternatively a mobile home. Home is a place to let people live in and have daily activities, like, sleeping, eating, washing and so on. So you don't need to stay outside and have no idea where to go. Home is place could provide your identities, and also a sense of belonging.
  3. Conduct research on own clients. Consider these issues: 
  • Who has been affected? How have they been affected? 
  • What are their needs and vulnerabilities? 
  • Are they in an urban or rural location? What housing existed before the natural disaster? 
  • How did it deal with the division of spaces, privacy, security, climate control? 
  • What are the climatic conditions? Cold climate? Warm, humid climate? Hot, dry climate? 
  • Do those displaced dwellers have cultural or religious traditions which influence their apparel, day to day activities, or social interactions?
 4. Discuss how current design proposal address my client-One couple with two children
 5. Select 1 of the 7 principles of universal design presented in the lecture and use it to develop your design proposal further-Equitable Use: the design useful and marketble to people with diverse abilities
